Pretty Palettes :: September Inspiration

September is all about back to school. So for this month’s inspiration, we are doing just that!

I sent my daughter off to her first day of sophomore year on August 30th. She even drove to school (just got her temps the week before and is taking every chance she can to chauffeur us around!).

1st day of Sophomore year!

1st day of Sophomore year in h.s.!

That was the same day that we dropped off our son at his dorm at UW-Madison for his freshman year. So the one picture that I was waiting for just came last night after his first day of school….er, college. So very happy to see his smiling face!

1st day of Freshman year!

1st day of Freshman year in college!

He is at our alma mater, UW-Madison, home of Bucky Badger and land of all things red and white. That is the famed Bascom hill behind him, with the statue of Abraham Lincoln sitting at the top. Looking the other way you can see all the way down state street with the Wisconsin State Capitol in the distance. It really is a beautiful campus situated on an isthmus between two lakes.

My Pretty Palettes partner for September is Cynthia Kent Machata of Antiquity Travelers. I am delighted to have her join me! I discovered that we actually have a lot in common. In the late 80s-early 90s we were both in college (me at UW-Madison, Cynthia at Oregon) and we were both in the same sorority – Delta Delta Delta. So that makes us sisters for life! We also have in common our little chicks flying the coop and starting college. Miss Cynthia just dropped her daughter at Simmons College out in Boston. I have found out that the Simmons mascot is Stormy the Shark and she tells me their colors are blue and grey.

So this month, I gave my partner an unprecedented choice… which college would she like to use as our back-to-school beady color palette? Her alma mater Oregon (the Ducks palette is green and gold, which in my world is a Packers palette! ;-) or her daughter’s school Simmons. She chose Simmons! Go Sharks!

Here are the two bead palettes that I selected for the September inspiration:

10149760 – bead gallery® grey luster 8mm round

So the challenge this month is to find your own favorite September palette of Halcraft beads  in your own school colors! Could be your high school, your college, the grade school your kids attend… no matter which school you choose, you will be sure to have an unique piece of jewelry to wear to show your pride and cheer them on!

Join us back here on Wednesday, September 28th  for the big bead pep rally!

    I love your theme this month, Erin! With kids starting school and football in high gear, this is BRILLIANT! I admire the way you are able to incorporate school spirit into our Pretty Palettes challenge this month. Thank you for always being awesome!

    And hugs from one mama to another with your kids starting all sorts of “fledging” this year.
    You’ve done a great job with them both!
