Welcome to Pretty Palettes!
My name is Erin Prais-Hintz and I am a color addict. ;-)
Color is my main Muse when I design. I really don’t want any treatment for my addiction. But that wasn’t always the case.
A few years ago, I found myself designing in a very muted and dark palette almost exclusively. I decided that I needed to change that so I started a blog hop called The Challenge of Color (the 4th annual sign up is coming soon! Check out http://treasures-found.blogspot.com to keep posted!) to break myself of my dark and dusty palettes. I identified that although I loved bright colors, I shied away from them in my work. Colors like orange and yellow scared me. So those are the colors I started to play with first, to conquer my fear of them.
Now I embrace all the colors and get really jazzed up with using all variations of colors in my designs. And when I shop for beads at my Michaels or Joann’s stores I don’t limit myself to one section, but use them all freely!
I want to encourage the same thing for you. I want you to fearlessly embrace all the colors in the crayon box and mix palettes that you never would have found yourself using before. You might find that once you conquer your notions of a certain color that it will creep into your designs giving new life and power to your creativity.
Each month, I will be sharing a color palette with the readers of the Halcraft Blog. And then I will challenge you to go out and find some Halcraft beads at your favorite store (Michaels, Joann’s, Hancock) to suit the palette, make something to share, and add a link to your piece. That way we can ooh and ahh all over the place and marvel at our use of color!
One of the palette sites that I love to use is called Design Seeds. Jessica Colaluca is a whiz at posting gorgeous pictures with beautiful palettes. These are great for giving yourself a kick start on any project. And as long as you give credit to Miss Jessica and her Design Seeds website, she is cool with sharing her palettes.
This month, just to give you an idea of what to expect next month, I will share with you the palette that I chose and the piece that I created.
Someone told me they would be going Leaf Peeping this past weekend. I thought that was such a great name! This is the perfect piece to wear when you are out hunting for natural color palettes!
All of these beads came from Michaels and the Bead Gallery line.
So, what do you think?
Would you like to join me in a color palette inspiration each month?
Check back in a few days for the reveal of the November inspiration palette and rev up your color engines!
Enjoy the day!
